Some time ago i found myself talking with heads of a investment fund looking for opportunities to invest in the Romanian internet. Aside my legendary gloom and discomfort with the way things are going in this industry, we tried to find unconquered niches to exploit (please remember this was a 2010 discussion, some things may have changed).

Four years ago, Razvan Varabiescu, head of an online agency, contacted me for an advertising campaign on blogs. I chose some of the blogs i thought fit for the job and ran the first advertising campaign on Romanian blogs. After that, i stayed in touch with the other bloggers and started to ran campaigns on our blogs, sometimes on all of them, sometimes only on a few. The result was a blog network we called Blog20.
Since I left Bucharest (I’ve moved to Berlin, Oradea and now Brasov) I’ve developed a personal brand strategy. I show up for a few conferences and gigs and people tend to cherish that. I don’t bore people with my presence every time there is an event remotely connected to online, even thought I get invited to most of them (and probably can get in the ones i am not on the list).
It’s understandable to enjoy events, but people will get bored of your presence, especially if you don’t have anything interesting to say.
UberVU.com is a site started by two guys from Romania. They moved to London and started acting like big shots at Romanian conferences, teaching us the way of the startup.
But the fact is ubervu.com is a spamsite. They claim they follow social media and expect a payment for it, but that is not true. They steal and they spam.
17 million pages indexed in Google and with all my content.
Finally, some may say. Google has announced it will open an office in Bucharest, hiring a country manager (Dan Bulucea, who left in March from Microsoft Romania). Looking at Mr. Bulucea’s background, i can bet Google is here to offer support to business clients to spend more money on adwords.
